Wedding Music at the Adams Ave Theater
Adams Avenue Theater is a unique event space right in the heart of Normal Heights, and we love seeing new life brought into a historic San Diego building.
The theater originally opened as a neighborhood movie house and later spent many years as a sewing and craft store before being transformed into an event venue. Today, it offers more than 6,000 square feet of flexible space for weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, fundraisers, celebrations, and other special events.
One of the best things about Adams Avenue Theater is that it really is a blank canvas. Rather than walking into a ballroom with a predetermined look, you have a large, open space that can be transformed around the style of your event. The historic character of the building is still there, but the renovated interior gives couples and event planners plenty of freedom to make the space their own.
The venue also has some great practical features, including an attractive bar area, comfortable gathering spaces, updated restrooms, ADA accessibility, and built-in sound and A/V capabilities. There's even a private apartment suite upstairs, which can be especially useful as a getting-ready space for weddings or for event hosts staying for the weekend.

For us, one of the fun things about a venue like Adams Avenue Theater is having so much flexibility with the music. A wind quintet works beautifully for a wedding ceremony, but the same group can completely change the atmosphere afterward with jazz, pop, Broadway, movie music, and other favorites for cocktail hour or a reception.
It's also hard to beat the location. Normal Heights is one of San Diego's great neighborhoods, with plenty of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and local businesses surrounding the venue along Adams Avenue.
