Liberty Station is one of those San Diego places where you can build an entire wedding weekend without sending your guests all over town. What was once the Naval Training Center is now a thriving neighborhood filled with restaurants, hotels, museums, galleries, shops, and event spaces, all surrounded by the historic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture that makes the property so recognizable.
Right in the middle of it all is North Chapel, one of the original buildings from the Naval Training Center and one of the most unique ceremony spaces at Liberty Station.
The chapel still feels like a real chapel. Rather than being converted into a completely different kind of event space, it retains the traditional sanctuary, long center aisle, beautiful architectural details, and the sense of history that makes walking through the doors feel a little different from a typical wedding venue.
For couples who want a traditional ceremony setting without leaving San Diego, it's a pretty special option.
A Historic San Diego Wedding Ceremony Space
North Chapel can accommodate a surprisingly large wedding while still feeling intimate. The sanctuary seats approximately 200 guests, with a long aisle that gives wedding parties plenty of room for a formal processional.
There are also smaller rooms behind the altar that can be used for getting ready, gathering before the ceremony, or making those last-minute adjustments before everyone heads down the aisle.
And once the ceremony is over, you're already in one of the best areas of Liberty Station for wedding photos.
Step outside and you have historic buildings, archways, mature trees, lawns, walkways, and plenty of classic Liberty Station architecture. Walk a little farther and you're at NTC Park and the waterfront, giving photographers a completely different backdrop without having to drive anywhere.
Live Wedding Music at North Chapel
North Chapel is also a wonderful setting for live music.
Our Left Coast Quintet brings flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and bassoon into the chapel, creating a warm, full sound that fits beautifully with the traditional sanctuary. For smaller weddings, our wind trio is another great option.
Music can be completely traditional with classical selections for the prelude and ceremony, or couples can make the ceremony much more personal with instrumental arrangements from movies, Broadway, pop music, video games, jazz, and other favorites. That's one of the things we love about spaces like North Chapel. You can have the look and feeling of a traditional chapel wedding without feeling like the music has to follow a traditional wedding script.
North Chapel & Snake Oil Venues
North Chapel is now operated by Snake Oil Venues, a team we know well and work with regularly throughout San Diego.
We're excited to see this historic Liberty Station venue in their hands and to continue performing weddings and events here. Having an experienced local event team operating the chapel also gives couples the opportunity to take a historic San Diego space and make it feel like their own.
The location makes things especially convenient for guests coming from out of town. Liberty Station has nearby hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, shopping, waterfront parks, and plenty to explore between wedding activities. For some couples, that means the rehearsal dinner, hotel, ceremony, reception, and next-morning brunch can all happen within the Liberty Station area. If you're planning a wedding at North Chapel and are looking for live ceremony music, we'd love to come back and be part of it.
