Wedding Music at the Martin Johnson House
Martin Johnson House is one of those San Diego wedding venues that doesn't need much help from us to make an impression.
Perched above the coastline at Scripps in La Jolla, the property has a large lawn overlooking the Pacific, a historic cottage, mature trees, and incredible views south toward La Jolla Cove. It feels surprisingly secluded considering you're right in the middle of La Jolla.
We've performed weddings here numerous times over the years and always enjoy coming back. Maybe it's the ocean breeze, maybe it's the view, or maybe people who choose a little historic house on the cliffs for their wedding tend to be our kind of people.
Whatever it is, we've had some great days here.

Weddings at Martin Johnson House
The lawn is the natural spot for an outdoor ceremony, with the ocean and La Jolla coastline stretching out behind you.
Afterward, guests can move over to the side lawn for cocktail hour while the wedding party takes photos, then gather around the house and patio for dinner and the reception.
It's an intimate property, though, and that's something worth keeping in mind when you're planning your guest list.
From our experience working events here, once you start adding a lot of tables, chairs, a bar, catering, entertainment, and everything else that comes with a wedding, the patio can get crowded pretty quickly. You'll want to think about how guests are actually going to move around the space, especially when everyone decides they need a drink at exactly the same time.
One trick we've seen work well is keeping the bar over on the side lawn where cocktail hour takes place rather than squeezing it onto the main patio. Talk to your coordinator about what makes sense for your wedding, but little layout decisions like that can make a surprisingly big difference.

These days, you'll find us here with the Left Coast Quintet or one of our smaller wind ensembles, featuring musicians on flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and bassoon.
It's a beautiful setting for acoustic music. We can welcome guests as they arrive on the lawn, perform the couple's selections throughout the ceremony, and then move over to cocktail hour afterward.
Our repertoire ranges from classical and romantic music to jazz, Broadway, Disney, movie and video game soundtracks, pop, rock, and plenty of unexpected favorites. An intimate venue like this gives us a chance to really interact with guests too, especially once everyone moves into cocktail hour.
