Perched on the hills overlooking La Jolla Cove near UCSD, the Martin Johnson House provides an exceptional view and a cozy atmosphere for San Diego wedding ceremonies. Their large lawn is perfect for setting up the wedding ceremony, and guests can mingle and enjoy dinner on the patio, all of which is ocean front property. The sunsets are absolutely amazing here!
We've performed here numerous times over the years, and always love returning. Not sure if it's because of the cool ocean breeze, the amazing sights, or just the couples cool enough to book a venue like this, but we've always had a good time at the Martin Johnson House and the Scripps wedding & event properties in general.
A few general tips for this venue: I'd suggest not having more than 100 guests. It can get a little crowded especially during dinner, and thinking about how your guests are going to get up and walk to the bar, walk to get dinner, or head over for dancing or photobooth is important. If there are more than 100 guests, you have more tables, and less walking room. I'd also suggest talking to your coordinator about moving the bar over to the side lawn where cocktail hour normally takes place. It can stay there for the evening, and you won't have guests on top of each other in line on the patio waiting for drinks. Definitely happy to share other tips and tricks for this beautiful space, please send a message!
