The Thursday Club is one of those San Diego wedding venues that gives you a little bit of everything: ocean views, beautiful gardens, historic architecture, and a location tucked into the residential streets of Point Loma that feels surprisingly removed from the rest of the city. We've performed several weddings here over the years, and it's always a venue we're happy to return to. The ceremony garden is especially beautiful, with mature landscaping surrounding the guests and views stretching toward the Pacific. The historic Spanish-style clubhouse dates to 1927, so the property has plenty of character without needing much added to make it feel special.
Our view from the “orchestra pit.” Live music for the ceremony with the couple just a few feet away.
Wedding Ceremony Music at The Thursday Club
The garden is a wonderful setting for live music. Guests can arrive to classical favorites, movie themes, Broadway, jazz or instrumental versions of pop songs before we transition into the couple's processional selections.
And this is definitely a venue where couples can have some fun with the music.
At one of our recent Thursday Club weddings, the couple built a ceremony playlist around music they actually loved, with selections from artists including Beyoncé, Coldplay, Elvis and The Beatles. That's much more interesting to us than feeling like every wedding has to use the same handful of traditional pieces.
Our full wind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon creates a rich sound that works beautifully in the garden, while our wind trio is another option for couples planning something a little smaller.
A Historic Point Loma Wedding Venue
After the ceremony, guests can move into the clubhouse for the reception. Inside, The Thursday Club still has its original hardwood floors along with French doors, stained glass, chandeliers and other historic details. The ballroom can accommodate up to 150 guests with a dance floor, while the garden ceremony area accommodates up to 145 seated guests. One of our favorite things about the venue is that it feels distinctly San Diego without being another hotel or resort. You get the ocean in the distance, a garden ceremony surrounded by greenery, and a historic building that has been part of Point Loma for nearly a century.
Live Wedding Music at The Thursday Club
Because we've performed here before, we're already familiar with the property and how live music fits into a Thursday Club ceremony. That's one less thing for a couple or planner to figure out on the wedding day.
Whether you want something traditional for the processional, a favorite movie score as you walk down the aisle, Taylor Swift or Coldplay during the prelude, or something completely unexpected for the recessional, we can help build a soundtrack that feels like your wedding.
And with hundreds of arrangements in our library, there are so many possibilities!
This pretty much sums up The Thursday Club: garden ceremony in the foreground, Pacific Ocean in the background.
